- Said to run at Infineon UPDATE: Boris Said will be driving the Carter / Simo Racing #08 Ford owned by John Carter in the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway June 21st. The team has available sponsorship on race car.(Carter / Simo Racing)
UPDATE: Absent from the Sprint Cup Series since missing the season-opening Daytona 500, Boris Said is expected to make his return at Infineon Raceway later this month. Said, best known for his road-racing skills, will drive Georgia businessman John Carter's #08 Ford in the Toyota/SaveMart 350 on June 21. Said originally planned to enter as many as 18 races this season, but a deal with Rick Clark Motorsports announced in February never came to fruition. Carter claims the team has been working on providing Said with a competitive car for the track that winds through the Sonoma hillside. "We have missed several races while preparing for this race," Carter said. "Boris Said is one of the all-time greats on the road courses and I feel comfortable that Boris is the man for the job."(NASCAR.com)(6-10-2009)
- Said to Compete in West Series Race in Sonoma: Road-race veteran Boris Said has confirmed that he will compete in the Bennett Lane Winery 200, presented by Supercuts, NASCAR Camping World West Series race at Infineon Raceway on Saturday, June 20. Said will drive the #57 entry for DenBeste Motorsports & Biagi Brothers, which is dedicated to the career of legendary Oakland Raiders quarterback Ken Stabler. The car features a special silver-and-black paint scheme, with hints of snake-skin colors throughout. Stabler was recently named the Grand Marshal of the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend at Infineon Raceway, June 19-21.
Said is no stranger to Infineon Raceway and should be one of the favorites when the green flag drops on the Bennett Lane Winery 200. He finished second in the West Series event in Sonoma in 2006 and third in 2007. Moreover, Said won the 1998 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event in Sonoma, and he has also reached the Wine Country Winner’s Circle in a variety of other disciplines. He has four top-10 efforts in nine NASCAR Sprint Cup starts in Sonoma.(Infineon Raceway)(6-1-2009)
- Boris Said not in Sonoma? The road racer is always a threat to win out West, but he won't be there unless some last-minute funding comes through. RCM Motorsports is moving forward with plans to put Boris Said in 10 to 12 races this season. But in securing sponsorship for races like Watkins Glen in August, the team has run into issues where their sponsors won't be ready to fund them until the second half -- leaving Sonoma out in the cold. "This is the best time of my career in the sport, because we're on the cutting edge," said owner Rick Clark, optimistic despite the hardships. "All we can do is hope a significant sponsor will realize the marketing upside for Sonoma. Of the sponsors that we are talking to, they're trying to do their best to reposition in time ... but we could use the additional help."
Clark is excited, however, about some of the other opportunities that are in place for selected races in the summer and Fall. "The Ford people have been in contact with us weekly and are really excited about the team. We're looking at a Hispanic network and programming opportunities to feature our team, as well as a possible cartoon in the works. We are going to make an announcement about partnering with a major viral TV network that has 35-45 million homes and counting. So, someone is recognizing the value we bring to the table, and before long we will be a major team to be reckoned with."(Sports Illustrated)(5-22-2009) Comment here
- Said's car catches fire during ALMS race UPDATE 2:: With only 6 minutes left in the American Le Mans Series sports car race in Long Beach, a GT2 Corvette driven by [part-time Sprint Cup driver] Boris Said burst into flames and filled with smoke. The veteran racer scrambled out of the cockpit and across the track as safety workers sprayed the car with fire extinguishers. Said was not injured. The race was won by Gil de Ferran and Simon Pagenaud.(ESPN/AP)
AND: During an ALMS race on Saturday in Long Beach, Calif., Boris Said's Corvette burst into flames. He got out, but not before sustaining several second degree burns to his arms and eyes.(Portland Press Herald), watching the video, Said got out of the car and ran to the wall and sat there a few minutes with safety workers looking at him and talking to him, Said got up walked away and waved to the crowd and got in a safety vehicle.
AND Boris Said adds to the legend. Said suffered second- and third-degree burns in a fire during the Long Beach Grand Am race. Get better, buddy, see an image of Said on Marty Smith's Door to Door column at ESPN

- RCM / No Fear Pushes Back Debut, Plans to run Infineon: This weekend was supposed to be the debut of Sprint Cup’s newest team, the #60 Ford for RCM / No Fear Racing driven by Boris Said. But a change in philosophy has pushed back the debut of the organization until Infineon in June. “I learned an important lesson in this sport that I should have known as a new owner,” said RCM / No Fear CEO Rick Clark. “My enthusiasm to debut the team is a lesson in patience that I should have learned playing college football and in the NFL. I would much rather make mistakes before we get to the track as opposed to on the track, and I don’t want to put Boris in a situation that we were not ready for. So, the decision was made, as much as I was eager, to debut the team at a track where we’re capable of contending for the win. I know there will be speculation as to why we didn’t run, but rather than burn up money I’d rather burn up rubber when the time is right. I’ve been waiting for five years, and I sure as heck can wait three more months to take a chance at Victory Lane.“ Clark said announcements on specific sponsors and programs will be forthcoming for the June event. Said has attempted only one race in 2009 to date, failing to qualify for the Daytona 500 after wrecking out of his Gatorade Duel. Following Infineon, the team still plans to run a limited schedule of races in 2009 before plans to move up to full-time competition in 2010.(Frontstretch)(3-6-2009) Comment here
- No Fear Racing merges, to run more races UPDATE: during ESPN2's NASCAR Show, Boris Said said Rick Clark Motorsports and No Fear Racing will merge in which Clark will have majority ownership. The team is expected to run 12-18 races this season. No word if Said will continue to run the #08 or go back to the #60. Clark has been trying to organize a team in either the Nationwide or Sprint Cup series for the past couple of years and has also led the Drive for Diversity initiative in NASCAR in the past. Said mentioned that an official announcement will be made at Daytona on Thursday where more details will be made known.(2-9-2009)
UPDATE: A 10:00am press conference is scheduled for Thursday where it will be announced that Rick Clark of New River, Va., has become majority owner of Cup team that plans to field Boris Said in 12-18 races this season. Adding to the announcement is that Clark is African-American and he would become the first African-American to be a majority owner in a Cup team since Sam Belnavis owned a Cup team in 2003. This isn't Clark's first endeavor with NASCAR. Two years ago, he announced plans to begin running in what is now the Nationwide series and move to Cup but had not been heard from since making the announcement.(Virginian Pilot)(2-11-2009)
UPDATE 2: Rick Clark and Boris Said announced their merger between Rick Clark Motorsports (RCM) and No Fear Racing. The new organization, RCM No Fear Racing, will form a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team with majority minority ownership. Clark, an African American businessman who spent eight years in the NFL as an agent for several players, was lured to the appeal of NASCAR and the opportunity to create a multicultural approach to auto racing which focuses on America’s youth by noted friend and ESPN lead broadcaster Dr. Jerry Punch. The race team will create a platform from which other marketing programs will be launched to increase inclusion in the industry. Said, with crew chief Frank Stoddard, will remain the driver of the #60 car and is expected to compete in 12-18 events in 2009, although competing in the #08 car this weekend through a prior commitment. Among the events that the RCM No Fear Racing team expect to compete are restrictor plate and road course events where Said has had past success. Mobile marketing and an animated movie make up the other marketing verticals, and a foundation will be established to give back to minority communities in need. In addition to Clark, prominent Wall Street and emerging markets finance lawyer, Al Tindall, is a principal in the RCM No Fear Racing team.(Performance PR Plus)(2-12-2009)
UPDATE 3: The two plan to run 12-18 races this season with Said behind the wheel, anticipating additional funding to run a full-time schedule in 2010. RCM / No Fear will start up teams in NASCAR's lower series, specifically selecting women and minority drivers who can develop over the next few seasons. The goal is to have a teammate at the Cup level for Said by no later than 2012. Debuting at Atlanta in the #60 Ford, this gives his team the cash infusion it needs to not only survive, but also thrive in this tough economy. But at 46, Said knows his days behind the wheel are numbered ... and he's excited to be a part of a future project that could change the landscape of the sport in the long-term. "Boris in not your 'cookie-cutter' driver," Clark said of the road-racing veteran who's also won a pole at Daytona in a Cup car. "He has a wide appeal, and will serve us well in developing young drivers who might not otherwise have a shot in the sport." Those young drivers are rumored to be men like motocross champ "Bubba" Stewart, Drive For Diversity graduates Marc Davis and Chris Bristol, and Mexican driver Rogelio Lopez. Whoever gets selected, the long-term plan is for Said and Clark to partner with Nationwide and Truck Series programs to get these drivers an opportunity in top-level equipment to prove themselves under the RCM / No Fear banner. Those partnerships could begin as early as later this year. To support those efforts off the track, Clark plans a groundbreaking marketing program designed to diversify NASCAR's fan base. Debuting a clothing line called "Krewe Wear" in association with his program, the team will look to market an entire brand of NASCAR-related merchandise to urban America, using some of the profits to expand and develop their program.(Sports Illustrated)(2-13-2009) Comment here
- No practice for Hylton means no Daytona 500 attempt: The hauler of #60-James Hylton was leaving Daytona International Speedway on Saturday as Hylton never got out on the track to practice. The Carter Simo Racing driver won’t attempt to qualify for the Daytona 500 on Sunday because he never was able to get a complete lap in practice, and NASCAR typically requires a driver to complete a lap at a reasonable speed to qualify the car. The team had been working on the car for the 74-year-old driver throughout the weekend but apparently never got it to race specifications. So there will be 56 drivers attempting to qualify for the Daytona 500.(SceneDaily)
AND: The final pre-qualifying practice for the Daytona 500 has ended. The #60 Dodge of James Hylton continued to be plagued with battery and carburetor issues. Per Nascar rules, car's must run a practice lap above an average of 175mph in order to attempt to qualify on Sunday. Despite a valiant effort from the crew, who pushed the car up and down pit lane several times attempting to get it to fire, the car would not start. "We just got snakebite today.", said James Hylton.(EM Motorsports site)(2-8-2009) Comment here

The #08 Ford Fusion will feature the Scotts Bonus S Max Lawn Fertilizer paint scheme during Daytona Speedweeks. “I’m really happy that Scotts is on board for the 500,” commented Said. “Between using Scotts products on my lawn and helping Carl (Edwards) with his road racing efforts, I feel like I already have a strong relationship with Scotts. I’m thrilled to represent them over the next week.”
“It is great to have an opportunity to team up with Boris Said for the Daytona 500 where he will be driving the Scotts Bonus S Max Ford Fusion,” said Jim Shertzer, Event Marketing and Sponsorship Manager for ScottsMiracle-Gro. “Living in Southern California, Boris has already started to enjoy his Scotts lawn and his Ford Fusion is featuring Scotts Bonus S Max Lawn Fertilizer – with its unique 3-in-1 formula that kills and prevents fire ants for up to six months, kills dollarweed and feeds your lawn!”.

- Said to run #45 at Watkins Glen: With approval from Ford, Boris Said will step into the Petty Enterprises #45 Dodge to replace Kyle Petty in the Centurion Boats at The Glen this weekend. With qualifying rained out, Said failed to make the field in his #60 No Fear Racing entry. He said prior to qualifying being postponed Friday that he had another ride lined up as long as he could get Ford approval. Late Friday, he said he had gotten that. Petty confirmed that the plan is for Said to drive his car. The race was going to be Petty’s first since the Coca-Cola 600 in May. Petty has missed the last nine races for his TNT commentary obligations, his daughter’s wedding and for the team to continue evaluate its program with drivers Terry Labonte and Chad McCumbee. Petty said the team has discussed all week the possibility of putting Said in the #45 car if qualifying was rained out. Once it was announced qualifying was canceled, the team began putting Said’s seat in the car and adjusting the pedals. Soon after qualifying was postponed, Said had to drive his Nationwide Series car for practice and had not yet had time to confirm that he had gotten permission from Ford and would drive for the Pettys. Said raced for the Wood Brothers last year in a similar situation. Said had previously stated that a rainout would cost his team about $250,000 as he failed to make the show with his No Fear Racing group. Said needed to get in Sunday’s race via qualifying and spoke of his situation prior to NASCAR's decision to cancel the session. That’s the risk part-time teams like Said’s take when trying to make Sprint Cup races. “It’s disappointing,” Said said. “I hope in the future NASCAR could tweak the rules where if they cancel qualifying and they know Saturday might be better weather, maybe they could lock the top 35 in but keep a half-hour to go qualify the go-or-go-homers. We put so much money into coming up here and not even to get a chance to qualify is a little disappointing."(SceneDaily)(8-8-2008) Comment here

- Said to own car dealership: #60-Boris Said is teaming up with one of the country's largest automotive retail operations to bring Boris Said's BMW of Murrieta to the Temecula Valley [Calif] in 2009. A joint venture between Said and Charlotte, N.C.-based Hendrick Automotive Group, the more than 50,000-square-foot facility will open off of Interstate 15 at the future French Valley Parkway exit in the fall of 2009. Hendrick Automotive Group will co-own and operate the dealership. Occupying more than eight acres of property at the Murrieta Auto Mall, Boris Said's BMW of Murrieta will provide sales and service to what has been an under-represented region for the automaker. Construction will begin in the fall of this year. Hendrick Automotive Group currently owns and operates five BMW Centers in three different states that have achieved the manufacturer's Pinnacle CSI (customer satisfaction index) award 12 times since 2002. The honor is earned annually by the top 8 percent of BMW retailers in the United States.(Hendrick Automotive Group PR)(3-20-2008)
- 7-Eleven Slurpee to Sponsor Boris Said at Daytona: When it comes to qualifying for the Daytona 500, Boris Said hopes the odds will be with him after experiencing an unusual amount of bad luck in his last three Sprint Cup weekends. Said will attempt to start his third Daytona 500, driving a newly-sponsored #60 7-Eleven Slurpee Ford Fusion. But before the green flag drops for NASCAR's most prestigious race, Said, a part-time racer, will have to exorcise a couple of demons to break his recent qualifying jinx.
During the Daytona summer race in July, Said appeared to have the pole locked up for the Pepsi 400. But with only 12 drivers remaining to qualify, a thunderstorm swept through the area, forcing NASCAR officials to cancel qualifying and set the starting field by owner points. Instead of earning the No. 1 starting position, which would have also earned
him an invitation to Saturday night's Budweiser Shootout (Feb. 9), Said packed his belongings and headed home to Southern California. "You talk about being deflated -- I was definitely in the dumps -- we went from hero to zero in a short time," recalled Said. “It was like we got pick-pocketed and couldn’t do a thing about it. Not being in the Bud Shootout was the biggest loss.” Unfortunately, it didn't get any better for Said. At his next Cup event at the Watkins Glen road course in August, Said, one of the foremost road racers in the world, would have easily qualified. But rain arrived at the wrong time again and qualifying was canceled with owner points setting the starting field. Though Said was later offered and accepted to drive the #21 Wood Brothers Ford in the Watkins Glen race, his #60 No Fear team took another heart-wrenching exit from the track. Then at Talladega Superspeedway, he qualified 10th overall. But a 10th place effort on that day was not good enough to make the 43-car show. The first nine qualifiers were also drivers who needed to qualify on time. Under NASCAR rules, only eight teams outside the top 35 in points earn a starting berth. Except for last summer’s debacle at Daytona, Said and crew chief Frank Stoddard have enjoyed success at the famed 2.5-mile tri-oval. Said won the Cup pole in the 2006 summer race and was fourth fastest the summer before.
In last year’s Pole Day for the 500, Said posted the fastest time among teams not automatically qualified. He also qualified on Pole Day in his first attempt at the 500 in 2005, claiming the 11th fastest speed overall.(DMF Communications PR)(2-7-2008) Comment here.

- Said to drive 4th GEM car at NHIS: Gillett Evernham Motorsports announced that Boris Said will be behind the wheel of a fourth Nextel Cup entry this weekend at New Hampshire International Speedway. Said will be running the #98 Valvoline/Stanley Tools Avenger in what would be his first Nextel Cup start on an intermediate track since 2005.
Gillett Evernham Motorsports has built a successful relationship with Said in the Busch Series over the past two seasons resulting in a pole, a second-place finish, two top fives and 31 laps led in nine starts. The #10 Avenger of Scott Riggs will be running its Stanley Tools primary paint scheme at New Hampshire as Gillett Evernham Motorsports’ three fulltime teams including, #19-Elliott Sadler and #9-Kasey Kahne, will remain unchanged. “Fielding the #98 Valvoline/Stanley Tools Dodge Avenger at New Hampshire this weekend is the start of some additional research and development Gillett Evernham Motorsports will be doing with the COT heading into the 2008 season,” said Ray Evernham. “This is also an excellent opportunity to get Boris (Said) some seat time at a Nextel Cup race considering all he has done for our Busch and road course programs over the last two seasons.”(GEM PR), Jason Keller is testing a #98 Dodge Advenger at Talladega for GEM as Said is tesing his own #60 Ford there.(9-10-2007)

- Said and Team SoBe No Fear Energy set Sonoma, adds sponsors: With its striking red and black #60 Ford Fusion, Boris Said and the SoBe No Fear Energy NASCAR Nextel Cup team are set to compete in this weekend's Toyota/Save Mart 350, round 16 of the 36-round 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. The first of two roadcourse races present on the 2007 Nextel Cup schedule, the Toyota/Save Mart 350 will take place on the picturesque 12-turn, 1.99-mile Infineon Raceway circuit. Located just 30 minutes north of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, the sweeping Infineon circuit is etched out of a 1,600-acre parcel of land situated in the lush Sonoma Valley. Having qualified and competed at both the 2007 Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway and the Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway - easily, two of the most prestigious races of the year - the Toyota/Save Mart 350 will be the third race of the season for the Sobe No Fear Energy team - and a race the organization is very much looking forward to. For not only is driver Boris Said renowned for his deft driving skills on the Infineon roadcourse - Said placed ninth at Infineon in 2006 - he will go there to compete in NASCAR's new Car of Tomorrow. Already raced upwards of eight times in 2007 - all on ovals - the 110-lap (218.9-mile) Toyota/Save Mart 350 will mark the premiere of the Car of Tomorrow on a roadcourse. Said's roadcourse skills, in tandem with the new car - a car Crew Chief Frank Stoddard and crew have spent a significant amount of time testing and developing - provides the team with a genuine shot at not only a top 10 finish, but perhaps even a chance at driving down victory lane. Ready to run in its traditional red and black Sobe No Fear Energy Drink colors, the team is also very pleased to announce that the bright yellow and black logos of Dollar General will grace the #60 Ford. Based in Goodlettsville, Tennessee and 8,260 stores in size, the nation's number one dollar store segment leader is back on-board after a very successful experience with the team at the 2006 Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway. The Sobe No Fear Energy team is also delighted to reveal the addition of a new sponsor for the Toyota/Save Mart 350. Aussie Vineyards, poised to launch their new wine brand "Au" in cooperation with Raley's, a Northern California supermarket chain that includes Raley's, Nob Hill and Bel Air stores, will support the #60 Ford as part of a six-week promotional campaign to introduce the Au brand in Raley's 135 retail outlets.(No Fear Racing PR)(6-20-2007)

- Boris Said and No Fear Racing set for Talladega: #60-Boris Said, who qualified sixth and placed 14th overall at the 2007 Daytona 500, will return to Nextel Cup Series action this weekend at the Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway. Driving for No Fear Racing, Said, from Carlsbad, California, will guide the #60 No Fear Energy Ford Fusion. "We're real excited to be back racing again and I'm hoping we can carry the momentum we have from Daytona over to Talladega," offered Said while packing up his driving suits and helmets this morning. "Our number one goal at Talladega this weekend is to make the race. Just making a Nextel Cup races has become so hard now, that we'll be pleased to just make the show." No Fear Racing tam owner Mark Simo is also excited about the team's chances this weekend's Aaron's 499 at Talladega. "You enter every race hoping for the opportunity to be competitive," reasoned Simo. "We're hoping we can do well at Talladega. "With a limited schedule - the team will also compete at Infineon, the Pepsi 400, Watkins Glen and the Talladega October race - first we hope to start the weekend by qualifying, and then if that works out, we'll look for a reasonable result on race day. I can't imagine going to a race and not being competitive, but you have to realize that we're racing against the best guys in the world here. I guess you have to curb your enthusiasm and live in reality."(No Fear Racing PR)(4-24-2007)

Roush Racing had sought to get Ragan approved to attempt his third Cup start last week at Atlanta Motor Speedway, but that approval was denied. - Roush's #06 team limited to one more race in 2006: Roush Racing can only enter the #06 in one more Nextel Cup race this year because of the team limitations imposed by NASCAR, team president Geoff Smith confirmed Saturday. Roush already has its fifth full-time team grandfathered in on the four-team NASCAR Cup limit. Teams are also allowed to enter an extra team for a rookie to get ready for next season. Smith said Roush Racing interpreted that limitation to mean seven races with any rookie, but NASCAR informed the team at Martinsville last week that it could run only one more race - the eighth Nextel Cup attempt overall for the #06 car this year. The #06 has attempted to run six events (including one where the team failed to qualify) with Todd Kluever and two with David Ragan. That final race for the #06 will be Phoenix with Kluever at the wheel. Smith said it is the team's plan to run Ragan in whatever races he is eligible for the rest of the year in the #60 No Fear Racing car, which has an affiliation with Roush. Ragan originally was supposed to drive the #06 car at Atlanta this weekend. When Roush Racing found out last week it could only run that car one more time this year, it withdrew the car and planned to have No Fear enter Ragan in the #60. Before it could get the new entry filed, NASCAR ruled that Ragan was not approved to run the 1.5-mile Atlanta track in the Cup race because of struggles at Martinsville Speedway last Sunday. Smith said the team is fine with the limitation imposed.(SceneDaily.com)(10-28-2006)

- Martin talks more about 2007; to the #60: #6-Mark Martin said Friday that he has absolutely no worries about the 2007 racing season, but did not rule out the possibility of driving a Nextel Cup car for someone other than Jack Roush next year, at least on a partial schedule. Martin, who has been with Roush since 1988, expects to field a Craftsman Truck Series Ford for the team next season, but he could also drive a part-time Cup schedule for a different team. “I’m going to kind of wait and see what materializes here, see what looks exciting, I guess,” Martin said Friday at Bristol Motor Speedway. Asked point blank if he could drive in the Cup series for someone other than Roush next season, Martin said, “There’s certain scenarios that might bring that around. I’m interested in a limited schedule, and obviously I’d love to do that with Jack, but that would kind of mess up the #6 car. I wish they didn’t have a limitation on teams.” The #6 car, of course, is the Roush Racing Ford Fusion that Martin will be vacating after the 2006 season. Martin and Roush have enjoyed phenomenal success together, with the driver earning all 35 of his Cup victories behind the wheel of Roush Fords. He has finished second in Cup points four times. Martin is an enviable position, as he has enjoyed great success with Roush’s trucks this season, winning four races in just eight starts, including Wednesday night’s tilt at Bristol Motor Speedway. “That truck’s an awful lot of fun,” Martin said Friday. But the shortage of talent in the Cup series and a wave of start-up teams makes him highly sought after. “I’m not worried about it,” Martin said of next season. “I really got a Chase to try to make, and once we do that I’ve got to focus … I’ve got it the best in the world. I have nothing to worry about in 2007. Nothing.”(Speed Channel)

- Boris Said and No Fear Racing Look to the Brickyard 400: Coming off a Bud Pole win and a highly impressive fourth place finish in the Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway, No Fear Racing now prepares to head into the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, August 6. Race number 21 of the 36-round 2006 Nextel Cup Series, the Brickyard will mark the third start for the Sobe/No Fear Energy Ford Fusion. "The response to the 'sell more cases, do more races' line I stumbled on was overwhelming and phenomenal," offers Said. "NASCAR fans are the most loyal and supportive in all of sports and I think they picked up on the fact that we are a small team doing the best we can with the limited resources we have. I'm amazed at how much attention we received from the press. And from what I am told, Pepsi and SoBe received thousands of E-mails from fans asking how they could buy cases of SoBe/No Fear Energy to help support our team. I'd really like to take this moment and thank the fans and all the press people who have helped us out. It's our goal to become a full-time NASCAR Nextel Cup team and with the support of the fans and press, we just might pull it off in 2007." The SoBe/No Fear Energy Ford Fusion will attempt to qualify for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard on Saturday, August 5. The car will carry the same red, black, red and yellow paint scheme it did in Daytona. K-Mart will serve as the associate sponsor of the Brickyard effort.(No Fear Racing PR)(7-27-2006)
- Roush comments on Said's team/NASCAR rules: Car owner Jack Roush, who is selling #60-Boris Said cars and engines in exchange for tutoring Roush’s drivers on road racing, was thrilled with Said’s fourth-place run at Daytona,. “NASCAR’s got some new words in their rulebook that I don’t understand yet called an affiliation, so we’re affiliated with Boris and the No Fear guys,” Roush said. “I hope it’s OK with NASCAR. We helped them with the engineering. We put an engineer with them. We helped them with the car. Boris helped us with our road race stuff, which was a benefit to us at Sears Point, and I see the prospect of helping one another as we go down the road. There are strengths in our program and strengths in Boris that will make everything we do together stronger.”(Speed Channel)(7-2-2006)
- Boris and Stoddard to Roush? UPDATE 2 No Fear Racing: hearing #36 MB2 Motorsports crew chief, Frank Stoddard has left MC2 Motorsports and gone back to Roush Racing [where is was the crew chief of the #99 and Jeff Burton for years] and that driver Boris Said also signed with Roush Racing. Not sure of the details or specifics yet but hearing the races planned are Infineon Raceway, Pepsi 400 at Daytona, Brickyard 400 and Watkins Glen. Could be in the #06 the Todd Kleuver is supposed to run 6 races in later this year as these four races are not on Kleuver's Cup schedule. Stoddard mentioned this on the radio show, The Morning Buzz, which Stoddard calls in to give NASCAR reports on Tuesday mornings.(4-4-2006)
UPDATE: Boris Said and veteran crew chief Frank Stoddard have formed their own Nextel Cup team, Yahoo! Sports has learned. They are partnering with long-time Said associate and former driver and team owner Mark Simo. The team, which is slated to run four or five races this season, will work with Roush Racing, which has offered to supply the team with cars, engines and technical expertise. Stoddard recently left MB2 Motorsports and speculation was that he was set to rejoin Roush. But Stoddard, who used to be crew chief for Roush's #99 car when Jeff Burton was behind the wheel, instead has been working with Roush officials on forming the new team. Said has been frustrated with his inability to find a regular Cup ride this season after running nine races with MB2 in 2005 with Stoddard as his crew chief. After Simo's No Fear clothing company purchased a building adjacent to Roush Racing headquarters in Concord, N.C., for a planned East Coast distribution center, Said, who has been working as a consultant for Roush's teams, began talking with Roush about possibly starting a team. The current plan is for the new team to run the Dodge/Save Mart 350 at the Infineon Raceway road course in June, the Pepsi 400 at Daytona in July, the Brickyard in August and the Watkins Glen road course, also in August. The team has secured sponsorship for at least four races, with an announcement regarding sponsorship details to come.(Yahoo Sports)(4-5-2006)
UPDATE 2: Action sports lifestyle brand No Fear, based in Carlsbad, California, has announced its plans to contest four races in the 2006 Nextel Cup schedule. Dubbed “No Fear Racing”, the new effort will run as a satellite operation of Roush Racing, and will be headquartered at the brand's new east coast corporate headquarters in Concord, NC. Road racing ace and NASCAR veteran Boris Said will drive NFR's #60 Ford Fusion, with primary sponsorship coming from the SoBe No Fear energy drink. Said will also co-own the team, alongside No Fear CEO Mark Simo and crew chief Frank Stoddard. NFR will debut at the Dodge/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway the weekend of June 24-25. It will then compete in the Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway, the Allstate 400 at The Brickyard on August 6 and at Watkins Glen a week later.(Speed Channel)(5-2-2006)
