- Sacks to attempt Atlanta: The 2006 season begins at Atlanta Speedway for the #13 Ford race team and driver/owner Greg Sacks. The #13 will be using Robert Yates Engines in 2006.(Greg Sacks site), hearing the sponsor will be Who's Your Daddy energy drink.(3-12-2006)
UPDATE: Who's Your Daddy announced it has entered into a sponsorship agreement to be the exclusive primary sponsor of Sacks Motorsports for the 2006 Nextel Cup Season. Greg Sacks will drive the Who's Your Daddy #13 Ford, debuting at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in the Golden Coral 500, this Sunday, March 19, 2006.(Greg Sacks site/BusinessWire)(3-15-2006)
- Sacks/Rabbe split: Greg Sacks and Ed Raabe Jr. joined forces last summer to form [#13] Daytona Racing Inc.. with primary sponsorship from Arc Dehooker, a product that safely removes a hook from fish and other wildlife. Sacks competed in a handful of races in the #13 Daytona Racing Dodge, some nice, hand-me-down cars from the Evernham Motorsports stable. Last week in the second round of Nextel Cup testing, Sacks rolled into Daytona International Speedway in the #13 Dodge while Raabe was positioned at the other end of the garage with the #73 Chevrolet. The #73 was decaled with Arc Dehooker decals while Sacks' machine was without sponsorship. Raabe remains as 45 percent owner, actually the trustee of the owner, of the #13 Daytona Speed Inc. racing team but has no plans to be actively involved with the Sacks effort. "We fulfilled our financial obligations with Daytona Speed," Raabe said. But Sacks sees it differently. He said the deal he struck with Raabe last year was plain and simple -- Sacks would run the race team and Raabe would be responsible for marketing and sponsorships. Arc Dehooker, the company is owned by Shawn Dick and his wife, Chris Raabe, who are setting up a new office in Raabe Racing Enterprises, a race shop off of Mason Avenue [Daytona]. Chris Raabe is Ed Raabe's daughter. Sacks said he will press forward. He will take delivery of two more Ray Evernham Dodges this week. His two sons, Paul and Brian, have come to town to help. Sacks said this turn of events caught him completely flat-footed early last week. He was a day late to testing because of the Raabe pullout. "We didn't get here until the second day of testing, again the product of being double-crossed by my partner," Sacks said. "That put us behind the 8-ball." Sacks said if does not get sponsor satisfaction, this union, which started at Daytona Speedway, could spill into a Daytona courthouse. Meanwhile, Raabe plans to house the #73 Chevy in a local shop and run young McClure for Nextel Cup Rookie of the Year honors. As for Sacks, Raabe said, "I wish him the best. I'd like to see a financial return on our investment with that team. My focus is on the #73 car under Raabe Racing Enterprises."(in part from the Daytona Beach News Journal)(1-23-2005)
- Hurricane affecting Sacks team: Hurricane affects NASCAR team which fields the #13 Arc Dehooker/Vita Coca Dodge NASCAR Nextel cup car of driver/owner Greg Sacks - is the only team based in Daytona Beach, FL., home of the stock car racing sanctioning body. That also makes it the only team based in the imminent path of
Hurricance Frances, expected to slam into Florida late Saturday. The team has been in its Daytona Beach shops all week preparing for Richmond next week - and preparing for Hurricane Frances. It is Running a partial schedule this year in preparations for a full 2005 Cup run. Owner/driver Greg Sacks: "What can you do? We're not in an evacuation area, so we boarded up the windows and got everything inside that was outside - the same things everybody is doing at home. After that, all you can do is wait and hope and pray - for ourselves, and for everybody else who is being affected by the hurricane. "So we've been working on our race cars and getting ready for Richmond and the races we have the rest of the season. By the first of the week, this thing should be out of here and we're still going to need to be ready to race. So everybody is doing their jobs. "Racers are racers, man. They don't think about anything else. If Dorothy had been a racer, instead of holding Toto in the tornado in 'Wizard of Oz' she would have been yelling at somebody to check the camber one more time. "So we're just going to check the camber one more time, and be ready to go at Richmond next week. We can't do anything about the storm, so we're concentrating on the things we can control."(Williams Company PR)(9-4-2004)
- Daytona based team ok after Hurricane: Daytona Speed, Inc., which fields the #13 ARC Dehooker/Vita Coca Dodge of driver Greg Sacks, appeared to have avoided major damage caused in the Daytona Beach area Friday by Hurricane Charley. The team is the only NASCAR Nextel Cup team based in the same city as the sanctioning body headquarters. "There are a lot of trees down and a lot of people without power. We got hit pretty hard but the Daytona area was luckier than a lot in Florida," Sacks said. "While there is a lot of cleanup work to do here, out thoughts are with those in other parts of the state who were hit much harder, and those in the path of the storm." The team still plans on competing in next week's Michigan 200 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series race at the two-mile Michigan Speedway. It was not entered at Watkins Glen, N.Y., this week.(Williams Company PR)(8-16-2004)
- Sacks back after 6 years: Greg Sacks didn't set any speed records Friday at Pocono Raceway. He was the 38th-fastest qualifier in the #13 Dodge, the last car to make today's Pennsylvania 500 on time. This will be Sacks' first Cup race since Texas in 1998, when he was driving for Cale Yarborough. It's taken Sacks five years to get back to stock-car racing's elite level by overcoming a head injury at Texas that derailed his NASCAR career. He is a co-owner of his car, running a limited schedule with an eye toward a full run in 2005. He failed to qualify last week at New Hampshire. Another significant number: 51, his age. Sacks is one of NASCAR's Real Old Guns. But don't even question his physical condition. "My condition is absolutely fabulous," Sacks said. "Let's go for a jog. I run three miles a day, three times a week." The conditioning helped his comeback. "My only concern about getting back into racing was control of my legs," Sacks said. "I had a hard time with that. [My doctor] didn't know that I was getting out of control. When I first got hurt, I left the hospital in a wheelchair. I couldn't walk for a good while. Eventually, I got to walking and then to moving and then a major step was to step off the curb and have control to get down. And then it was if you had to take a leap over the curb how do you do it and control your legs?" Sacks has had 258 career Cup starts in a career that began in 1983, 20 top-10s, poles at Daytona and Atlanta and one very big win. Sacks is best known for winning the 1985 Firecracker 400 at Daytona, beating the hottest driver of that era, Bill Elliott, who had won that year's Daytona 500 and was on the pole for both races. "My intent is to have the record for longest number of years between wins," Sacks said. "How about that? I want to be in the record books forever. I'm looking to win again." After rehabilitating following the 1998 Texas crash, Sacks returned to his modified racing roots and worked his way back up to ARCA, where he finished second at Chicagoland last year. He also ran ARCA here last year. This year, he's warmed up with a Busch race at Dover [40th] and a truck race at Texas [32nd], eliminated by mechanical problems both times.(Atlanta Journal-Constitution)(8-1-2004)
- Sacks back in a Cup car? UPDATE: during Speed Channel's Busch Series Qualifying coverage, Jeff Hammond mentioned that Greg Sacks, attempting to make the Busch Series race at Dover, is working on a deal to get back in a Nextel Cup car, possibly as soon as Chicago in July. No word on what team and no idea if it has anything to do with that #05 Team he announced a few years ago.(6-4-2004)
UPDATE: Greg Sacks, 51, will debut the #13 Daytona Speed Dodge at Chicagoland Speedway next weekend. Daytona Speed, owned by Sacks, Ed Raabe and James Wilsberg, will be based here, although the team is still searching for a building suitable for a race shop. Sacks has not raced at the Nextel Cup level since 1998 after being injured at Texas Motor Speedway. He has seen spot duty in ARCA, and in the Busch and Truck series in recent years [NOTE: he did, however, announce back in August 2002, the #05 Chevy team, sponsored by a board game, that never made it to the track]. Sacks is buying his cars and equipment from Evernham Motorsports, which campaigns two factory-backed Dodge cars in Nextel Cup. Ray Evernham said his team is developing an in-house chassis. As the new Evernham cars are put into service, the older cars will be sold. Sacks has "right of first refusal." "He asked if he could be the first guy in line when we start selling cars," Evernham said. "I've known Greg for a long time. He's a good guy. I told him when we start to sell cars, yeah, he could have first crack at them." Daytona Speed will get its engines from Mike Egge [who does the Petty Engines]. Sacks will wear the crew chief hat until next season. Sacks will enter 10 races this season. He'll be joined by a team car, the #73 Dodge, at Dover and Martinsville. "We'll start the 2005 season as a two-car team," Sacks said.(Daytona Beach News Journal), see the Greg Sacks Fan Site for a nascar.com image.(7-2-2004)
- no idea what is up with this team or even if it is still in existence or just some marketing thing?
- Sacks to race at Daytona...but: NASCAR Winston Cup veteran and former Pepsi 400 winner Greg Sacks has filed an entry for the Feb 8th ARCA race at Daytona International Speedway. Sacks is entered in a Bobby Jones Racing Jiffy Lube-sponsored Ford Taurus.(Greg Sacks Fans). No word on Sacks #05 Cup team, nothing has been mentioned about that team since summer of 2002.(1-17-2003)
- Sacks New Team to Debut at Lowes in Oct? The first time the FRANCHI$IT race car zips around the track later this year or next, Loren Fossie isn't sure she will be able to watch. While others might want to see spectacular crashes at NASCAR events, Fossie doesn't want a scratch on the brightly colored Chevrolet Monte Carlo. It's different when you have a stake in the ownership of the team. Fossie, who developed the FRANCHI$IT board game that hits the mass market in September, will have her fingers crossed when the car makes its track debut. Fossie has teamed up with veteran driver Greg Sacks to promote her board game. Sacks, who has started 258 Winston Cup Series races, has painted his car with images of FRANCHI$IT, his new sponsor. After Fossie and Sacks agreed on a plan, the FRANCHI$IT car with red, orange, yellow and green decals, was unveiled in Florida in June. On Thursday, the car made an appearance at Burlington County College's Mount Laurel campus. The car could run in the Cup races at Charlotte [Lowes], in October and Homestead in November, Fossie said. A full slate of Winston Cup races is planned for next year and sponsorships are lined up for the next three years. Sacks has the core of his team ready to go, but won't make any announcement because some are currently working for other drivers. The FRANCHI$IT/Sacks Racing team will be based in North Carolina.(Courier-Post)(8-3-2002)
- Sacks getting closer: Greg Sacks, who has been out of the NASCAR loop for several years since suffering serious injuries in a crash at Texas Motor Speedway, is methodically putting the pieces together to own a team in 2003. "The bottom line is we're developing this program to run a full Winston Cup schedule in 2003," said Sacks. Sacks partner is Loren Fossie, an entrepreneur who lives in New Jersey who has has developed a board game called "FRANCHI$IT" which Sacks said is the "Monopoly of the new millennium." Sacks will become a marketing tool for Fossie's board game. The plan is to run at least two, but up to 10, races in 2002, before preparing for a full-scale assault next year. Sacks will be majority owner of the team, which will be based in Charlotte, NC. Sacks is talking to people -- quietly -- about having them join his operation next year. "I've been in contact with two crew chiefs, two guys I've worked with in the past," he said. "The guy I want is interested." The last few years have been tough for Sacks as Winston Cup teams hire younger and younger drivers. He realized he would have to create his own opportunity.(Daytona Beach News Journal)(6-23-2002)
- Greg Sacks to return to Cup/BGN UPDATE: Greg Sacks hopes to return to both the Cup and the BGN later this season. Sacks has teamed with Loren Fossie, president of LAF Enterprises and owner of the "FRANCHI$IT" board game to form Team FRANCHI$IT/Sacks Racing. The plan is to do at least two races this year and as many as ten. Sacks will run the #05 Chevy Sacks won the 1985 Pepsi 400 at Daytona and the 1996 Humminbird 500K BGN race at Talladega. Sacks plans could expand to a full season 2003 effort in either the BGN or Cup or both. The car will be unveiled to the public on Monday at The Coffee Beanery Convention at Walt Disney's Coronado Springs Resort outside Orlando, FL.(NASCAR.com)(6-8-2002)
UPDATE: see an image of the car on my Paint Schemes Gallery which was unveiled to the public recently at The Coffee Beanery Convention at Walt Disney's Coronado Springs Resort outside Orlando, FL. Also the Greg Sacks Fan Page says "Rumor has it that GS [Greg Sacks] will be entering a car in the BrickYard 400 Cup Race"(6-15-2002)
- Sacks in the #71? hearing rumors that Greg Sacks [former Cup and BGN winner] may run a few races for the #71 Dave Marcis Racing team.(2-20-2002)
- Sacks at Martinsville...in a Featherlite car: Greg Sacks will be going back to his roots this weekend when he attempts
to make the field for Saturday’s Advance Auto Parts 200 NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour race at Martinsville Speedway. Sacks racing career began in the NASCAR Modified division in New England. He made a name for himself throughout the Northeast in the late 1970s and early 1980s, but his couple of trips South each year to Martinsville Speedway back then were his biggest races. It was at Martinsville where Sacks first caught the eye of Winston Cup team owners when he won the Dogwood Classic in 1982. By 1983 he was in a Winston Cup car. A year later he set the circuit on its ear when he won the Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Raceway. Sacks’ career never took off in a big way after that win, even though hestayed in Winston Cup racing for the next dozen years or so. Then in
1998, while driving for Cale Yarborough Motorsports, Sacks was injured in a hard crash. That was his last fulltime Cup ride.(Martinsville Speedway PR)(10-10-2001)
- Sacks News: Former Stafford Motor Speedway Modified champion and winner in Cup and BGN, Greg Sacks will once again be behind the wheel of the T. S. Haulers #13 NASCAR modified for car owner Ed Partridge of Calverton L.I. NY at the Stafford Motor Speedway In CT. Greg will be teaming with former Stafford and Thompson Speedway Modified Champion Bo Gunning of Connecticut in an effort to bring T. S. Haulers its first FMS Tour Victory. The entire TS Motorsports team is honored to be able to work with a veteran driver such as Greg Sacks at Stafford and possibly for the remaining races on the FMS Tour Schedule this season. This is a great opportunity for T. S. Haulers race team, as Sacks is hard at work trying to secure a ride for 2002 in the Cup or BGN Series, and a few races in November this year may be on his schedule. In the meantime, Sacks will travel up from Florida and once again race in front of his Northeast Fans in NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series(TS Haulers Racing)(9-29-2001)
- Sacks to Race: Greg Sacks a former winner on the Cup and BGN circuits and former Modified Champion will return to his modified racing roots in the TS Haulers #13 at Loudon, New Hampshire on July 20th. Sacks will team with TS Haulers Modified tour driver Bo Gunning for the race. The plan is for Sacks to run one race for longtime friend Ed Partridge 's TS Motorsports team. Sacks last drove a modified in 1997 at Loudon in a Curt Chase #77 backup car. Sacks will drive a car recently purchased by TS Motorsports from the 2000 Modified tour Championship team. TS Haulers Motorsports races weekly at Riverhead Raceway on Long Island and fulltime on the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour(TS Motorsports PR)(7-19-2001)
