ท          IS ANYONE GOING TO MAKE A MOVE???  Sunday’s race at New Hampshire was a bad day for the Top 25 contenders trying to get closer to the all-important Top 12.  No contender lost less than 31 points on 12^th place, and three lost triple digit margins on 12^th:  Greg Biffle -100, Mark Martin -170 because he did not race, and Elliott Sadler -106.  All of this because bubble-spot occupier Dale Earnhardt Jr. drove to a strong fourth-place finish, posting 170 points to his total. Only one other team, Clint Bowyer and the #07, are within one race of dropping out of the Top 12.10^th place  Martin Truex and the #1 now have a one-race margin, as a third at Loudon now has them 175 points ahead of 13^th place Ryan Newman.

 

ท          HOW SOON WILL JEFF CLINCH???  Jeff Gordon’s second at N.H. now has him 755 points ahead of 13^th. That’s nearly a four-race cushion if he didn’t start at all, and almost a five-race cushion if he started and finished 43^rd in each race.

 

ท          BOWTIE BRIGADE:  Chevrolet currently occupies 10 of 12 Chase spots, yielding only two to Roush and Ford (Kenseth 3^rd and Edwards 7^th), and claiming 14 wins out of 17 races. Dodge’s best hope is Ryan Newman, sitting just 127 points out of 12^th, and Kurt Busch, 236 out but dangerous. Richard Childress Racing has all three cars in at this point, and DEI is probably the biggest surprise, with two out of three cars in at the current time.

 

ท          MIRACLE MARK STILL LURKS:  Despite missing 5 of 17 races (nearly 30%) Mark Martin is still in position to contend for a spot in The Chase. It’s a big hill to climb at -323 points and eight positions out of the Top 12, but he’s going to run the next four straight races.
